USBP, Florida Law Enforcement Partners Apprehend Two Illegal Aliens Following Vehicle Pursuit in Broward County

DANIA BEACH, Fla. — U.S. Border Patrol agents, in coordination with the Florida Highway Patrol and the Broward County Sheriff’s Office, successfully apprehended two illegal aliens following a vehicle pursuit on Interstate 95 on Sept. 10.

At 4:41 p.m., Border Patrol agents assigned to the Dania Beach Border Patrol Station, working in collaboration with FHP, conducted over the road operations on I-95 southbound near Deerfield Beach. Agents attempted to conduct a vehicle stop on a white, Chevrolet van bearing Florida license plates.

When agents and FHP troopers attempted to initiate a traffic stop, the driver failed to yield and continued traveling south on I-95.

FHP troopers assumed the lead in the pursuit, with Border Patrol agents providing secondary support. During the pursuit, the van maneuvered erratically through heavy traffic. FHP successfully executed a Precision Immobilization Technique maneuver, bringing the vehicle to a stop.

Following the stop, the driver and passenger fled the vehicle on foot. Agents and FHP troopers apprehended the passenger, a criminal alien from Guatemala, after a brief foot pursuit. The passenger was transported to the Dania Beach Border Patrol Station for processing.

The driver fled the scene, jumping a chain-link fence, swimming through a canal, and traversing a nearby business complex. The Broward County Sheriff’s Office was notified, and a perimeter was established. With the assistance of BSO air support and a K-9 unit, law enforcement tracked the subject. At approximately 6 p.m., the BSO K-9 team successfully apprehended the driver, a criminal alien from Mexico.

"This incident highlights the critical importance of our partnerships with state and local law enforcement," said Chief Patrol Agent in Charge Jeffrey Dinise. "Through the seamless coordination between Border Patrol agents, the Florida Highway Patrol, and the Broward County Sheriff’s Office, we were able to safely resolve a dangerous situation and ensure that those who violate our laws are held accountable, keeping our communities and our country safe."

The driver was arrested by FHP on multiple state charges. CBP has placed an immigration detainer on the subject.
