UTEC and UNESCO IESALC lay the groundwork for an institutional model for microcredentials

The Technological University of Uruguay (UTEC) and UNESCO IESALC, together with 86 participants, held the online closing session of the Training and Technical Assistance Program for the Co-design and Implementation of the Microcredential Model and the seminar series UTEC Microcredentials: Building an Institutional Model, aimed at the entire university community.

A training process that strengthens institutional capacities

Over the course of 10 weeks, 51 members of UTEC’s academic and administrative teams participated in a training and technical assistance program that combined keynote sessions with international specialists, weekly mentoring sessions, virtual visits to other universities’ initiatives, and opportunities for institutional co-creation.

The program brought together 13 specialists from universities and organizations in Spain, Argentina, Chile, Ecuador, Guatemala, Uruguay, and UNESCO. It saw high levels of participation and engagement throughout its duration, thanks to the close support of a team of expert mentors from Colombia, Mexico, and Spain.

As part of their practical training and to apply what they had learned throughout the program, the 10 teams developed microcredential design exercises linked to different areas of knowledge—ranging from sustainability and artificial intelligence to entrepreneurship and industrial process management—which were presented in short videos to conclude their training process.

These are working prototypes developed within the framework of the program, which lay the groundwork for the future development of UTEC’s institutional micro-credential model.
